Mattie attends IIASA Summer School for Systems Modeling in Austria

Climate Action Lab member Mattie Bindl was selected to participate in the 2025 Summer School for Systems Modeling at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria.

This two-week experience, which took place from July 7-18, 2025, brought together 27 graduate students and postdocs from 15 different countries. The first week of the program featured lecture-based instruction from experienced researchers at IIASA, traversing a wide range of model concepts, approaches, and applications. Participants then applied these lessons during the second week of the school through interdisciplinary teamwork . Each small group coalesced around a common interest or real-world issue and devised a model approach to address the given topic. This led to five, unique proposals for real-world model applications.

This Summer School for Systems Modeling is an annual program that began in July 2024. Applications open each December for the following summer and are reviewed by an international selection committee.
